My role
Co-founded the bar, was responsible for the name, the identity and the menu, and briefed the freelance designers
When

Result
The bar opened on 14 June 2020, was in the local paper ten days later and ran until 2022.

In June 2020, during the pandemic, we opened LefalaF, a vegetarian falafel bar on Frederiksborgvej in Nordvest, Copenhagen. The name is falafel written backwards, because Arabic is read from right to left. We served Lebanese and Palestinian street food with a Nordic twist.

The final logo, with the last f turned around and a short stroke under each end, was ready on 13 June, the day before we opened. In July I took the slogan away from under it, so the logo stood alone. Our invitation to the neighbours promised 10% of the first day's sales to vulnerable and orphaned children, and the local paper ran our story ten days after we opened.

Our invitation to friends and neighbours, written in Danish the day before we opened on Sunday 14 June 2020.

A freelance designer drew the menus, posters and stickers from my texts. The early menus had English headings with the price beside each one. I showed the menu to four people, and three of them asked whether the number was the price or the number of the dish. When I corrected the menu that July, I moved the price down to the description and changed the headings to Danish. By November the menu had reached V10.

One poster has seven rows of LEFALAF, and the lit letters spell falafel. For the other I wanted velbekomme ("enjoy your meal") in Arabic, and had a Lebanese friend check it, because Google Translate wasn't reliable.

Two posters. One has seven rows of LEFALAF, and the lit letters spell falafel. The other says velbekomme ("enjoy your meal") in Arabic.

The menu had three flatbreads, Teta's, Amo's and Shab's. In Arabic, Teta means grandmother, Amo means uncle and Shab means the young ones. Each flatbread had two 60 mm wrap stickers, one for the original and one for the cheese version.
